
Greater Houston Chapter
Located in Region 4. Three chapters Northwest Houston, Sam Houston and San
Jacinto have merged to form the new Greater Houston Chapter. These three chapters
have been conducting joint programs over the past few years, and the members voted to
unite formally.

Review of Activities

reported as highlights for 1996-1997.
Northwest Houston
- Supported MATHCOUNTS competitions for junior high school students and high school design
competition in the Houston area
- Sponsored and judged special awards at the annual Science and Engineering Fair of
Houston
- Selected high school students for college scholarships awarded at the chapter and
national levels
- Participated in the Engineers Council of Houston
- Supported TSPE Region IV committees, seminars and projects for professional engineering
examination and rule compliance
Sam Houston
- Held joint meetings with San Jacinto and Northwest Houston chapters and participated in
Houston area Engineers Week activities.
- Participated in joint engineering society dinner in October with 10 other professional
organizations. Featured speaker was the Harris County Judge.
- Presented students awards at a special June meeting.
- Participated in middle school career days to present information on careers in
engineering.
San Jacinto
- Sponsored family outings to the IMAX theater in July and to the Astrodome for a game
between the Astros and the Pirates in August
- Held joint chapter meetings with Sam Houston and Northwest Houston chapters
- Hosted third annual Engineering the Future barbecue luncheon to raise money
for the continued support of educational programs sponsored by the chapter
