The MATHCOUNTS Program

MATHCOUNTS is a nationwide program that promotes math excellence for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students and combines the efforts of the education, business, government and the technological communities. It is a math skills coaching program based on higher thinking skills development with a series of progressive competitions at local, state and national levels. It motivates students to do well in math and recognizes and rewards them for achievement. The program also gives the math teachers an incentive to excel in their classrooms.

The 2012 state competition was held March 24, 2012 at the Hilton Austin Airport Hotel.

MATHCOUNTS Teachers Workshops

MATHCOUNTS Teachers Workshops are conducted by veteran MATHCOUNTS coaches who share a wealth of information about using the program’s materials in the classroom and preparing you for the competitions. The workshops are offered free of charge and teachers receive hours toward the TAGT Awareness Certificate as well as G/T Professional Development credits. Please contact the state office for information on a workshop near you. If a workshop is not already scheduled in your area, we will make every effort to organize one if there is an interest. To request a workshop in your area, please e-mail us at mathcounts@tspe.org.
