Congratulations to the outstanding TSPE member's who were awarded Young Engineer of the Year at their chapter this year.

Brazos Chapter 
Joseph D. Hill, P.E. 

Joseph Hill joined Terracon Consultants in April 2010, after working for Bleyl & Associates from 2009 - 2010. As an intern, he worked primarily in Construction Materials Engineering and Testing Department. He spent long days logging piers, casting concrete cylinders and conducting field density tests on the College Station High School project.  He graduated from Texas A&M University with his Masters of Engineering in Geotechnical Engineering in 2011. After graduating, he was offered a full-time position with Terracon in the College Station office. Initially, he commuted to Terracon’s Houston office daily for a year, learning how to apply his geotechnical engineering education on projects of various types. He was instrumental with leading his office to become the only fully AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) accredited materials testing laboratory in the Brazos Valley.

 

Hill has been an active member of First Baptist of Bryan since 2007. He is also involved in the Bryan Rotary Club and served as its President from 2016-2017.  He is involved with the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Houston Chapter (which serves the B/CS area) where he serves as an Examiner for certifications – administering over 400 tests each year. He serves on two committees at the national level.   He is married, and he and his wife have a 4-year old son.  His hobbies include running, biking, and swimming.  

 
 DFW Mid Cities Chapter

 

Ryan Dufour, P.E.

 

Ryan Dufour is a project manager and design engineer with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. in Irving, TX. Over the past five years, Ryan has focused on municipal urban roadway reconstruction, intersection improvements, roundabouts, drainage and utility improvements, as well as development of roadway design standards. His experience has included more than 30,000 linear feet of urban roadways in the Dallas/Ft. Worth and Houston areas. Some of his recent projects include: Great Southwest Parkway for the City of Grand Prairie, Lakeshore Drive and Summit Ridge Drive for the City of Rockwall, and Broad Street for the City of Mansfield.

Ryan received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from The University of Arkansas, and is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas. Ryan is an active member of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers - DFW Mid-Cities Chapter where he currently serves on the board of executives as Treasurer.

Ryan currently lives in Grapevine, TX with his wife, Lauren, and goldendoodle, Dak. When not working, Ryan enjoys spending time reading books and finding new shows to binge on Netflix. An adamant sports fan, Ryan also loves to cheer on his beloved Dallas Cowboys and Arkansas Razorbacks.

El Paso Chapter 

 

Sergio Mendez, P.E.

Mr. Mendez is a Project Engineer for CONSOR Engineers, an engineering consultant company in El Paso.  He is a licensed professional engineer in Texas with over 7 years of experience and has contributed to a number of major engineering projects in the City of El Paso, Texas including the El Paso Water Utilities Wastewater Masterplan, and the TXDOT Bridge Inventory, Inspection and Appraisal Program. Mr. Mendez is a graduate of the University of Texas At El Paso (UTEP), earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 2010 and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering in 2011. Mr. Mendez is a member of the El Paso Chapter of TSPE and is the current President of the El Paso Branch of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), particularly serving as the Practitioner Advisor for the ASCE UTEP Student Chapter for the last 6 years. In addition to being recognized as the Young Engineer of the Year of the El Paso Chapter of TSPE, Mr. Mendez will also be nominated for the State Young Engineer of the Year award.  TSPE would like to congratulate and thank Mr. Mendez for his dedicated service to the engineering profession, TSPE and the El Paso community.  

 Fort Worth Chapter

Jacob Hays, P.E.

 

Jacob was born in Elgin, Texas and later moved to Amarillo, Texas where he attended Amarillo High School. After graduating from high school, he attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas where he studied civil engineering. Jacob graduated from Texas Tech University in the spring of 2012 and accepted a full time graduate engineer position at Halff Associates in their Fort Worth office where he is still employed. Jacob received his PE license in the spring of 2017 and now serves as a design engineer and project manager on a public works team.

Jacob’s involvement in TSPE began shortly after starting at Halff Associates when he was invited to a monthly meeting by fellow coworkers within his first week on the job. Since then Jacob has served; as the chapters Treasurer from 2016-2018, on the scholarship committee from 2015-2019, as a MathCounts volunteer since 2013, as a Future City volunteer in 2014, and is currently the Vice President of Public Relations.

Away from work Jacob’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, mountain biking, softball, golf, and an array of other outdoor activities. He is active in his fraternities’ alumni chapter where he heads their annual memorial scholarship golf tournament. His girlfriend is a registered nurse in Dallas, his father is an equine veterinarian in Elgin, and his mother is a realtor in Amarillo.

 South Plains Chapter

 

Daniel Albus, P.E.

Daniel Albus, P.E., is an Associate and a Team Leader in Parkhill, Smith & Cooper Inc.’s Treatment Sector. He is an expert in water and wastewater treatment for industries and municipalities. His experience includes the design of several reverse osmosis plants, arsenic treatment plants, facultative lagoons, and activated sludge systems. Daniel desires to discover the optimal solution to a client's current and future treatment needs.
