Up to five awards are given yearly to chapters or members who are promoting TSPE’s mission and goals in their geographic area, throughout the state, or nationally. These are prestigious awards established to recognize a chapter/member that/who, in addition to fulfilling its/their duties as a chapter, leader, committee member, or member, has taken its/their role to another level and whose accomplishments should be promoted across the state organization.

Katharine LeGrow, P.E. Awareded for her creation of the Shoreline Spruce-Up program in 2021 - this program brings together volunteers once a month to clean up trash and debris along the section of the trail of White Rock Lake Park. After the first successful year of this program, the City of Dallas assigned a section of the park to the TSPE Dallas Chapter.
University of Texas at Austin student chapter Awarded for the reactivation of the student chapter in 2024 after months of hard work. Since then, the chapter has conducted bi-weekly general meetings and socials to educate engineering students and provide opportunities for leadership and networking.
Jacob Bell, P.E. / E. Talmadge Hill, P.E. / Kyle Schulze, P.E. / George E. "Jed" Walker, Jr., P.E. Awarded to four Central Texas Chapter members who worked on the 2013 West fertilizer plant explosion with their employer Walker Partners. They then went on to produce a documentary titled "West, TX | Rising From the Rubble" that was donated to the City of West for the 10-year anniversary of this tragic event. Kensley Cobb, P.E. Awarded for her work as the Greater Houston Chapter MATHCOUNTS Coordinator, helping to host and run the largest MATHCOUNTS competition in the state. She lead the difficult search for a new facility for their chapter competition that will allow room for growth in numbers for future years.
Jacob Lesue, P.E. Awarded for his videography and editing work on the TSPE PR Committee, helping to film member spotlights, TSPE president spotlights, and a project showcasing a past legislative attack on QBS with commentary from former Rep. Wayne Smith.
2024
Marie Leal, P.E. Awarded for her work as the president of the Rio Grande Valley Chapter president. She helped re-establish the chapter to active status, and establish the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and Texas A&M McAllen student chapters and Edmundo Gonzalez Scholarship. She also organized a Mechanical-Electrical-Plumbing (MEP) and legislative forum.
Richard Liesse, P.E., F.NSPE Awarded for his work on the Greater Houston Chapter programs. The chapter had a continuous decline in meeting attendance, and through his connections, he was able to arrange various speakers for chapter meetings including Vanessa Wyche, Director of NASA's Johnson Space Center.
Russell Thoma, Jr., P.E. Awarded for his service in South Plains Chapter, where he served chapter leadership roles before becoming president in 1989, then serving as the chapter's treasurer from 2004-2024. During this time he offered advice and mentorship to fellow chapter leaders, maintained a connection with Texas Tech, and coordinated scholarship endowments.
Greater Houston Chapter Awarded for hosting their first casino night as a successful membership drive, creating original materials to help promote and run the event. The chapter also had Ashley Myers, Legislative & Governmental Affairs Director, present on advocacy efforts in TSPE.
Rio Grande Valley Chapter Awarded for expanding their chapter programs, including establishing two successful student chapters, expanding Engineers Week celebrations towards scholarship funds, and hosting friendly competitions such as the axe and golf tournaments. The chapter also created multiple unique award recognitions to increase their community reach.
2023
Joseph L. Dickinson, P.E. Awarded for his work on the Education Committee, which included him chairing the committee from 2020-2022. He held numerous presentations for engineering students at various colleges. During his tenure, the UT RGV student chapter was successfully established and now holds over 30 active members.
Jeffrey Frison, P.E. Awarded for his work on the Membership Committee, which included him chairing the committee from 2020-2023. He helped to restore and improve upon the committee and developed the TSPE Focus on Members Program. He also went above and beyond to fundraise sponsors for the 2020 and 2021 TSPE Conferences.
William D. Lawson, Ph.D., P.E. Awarded for his dedication to the Texas Tech student chapter, of which he is the founding advisor since 1998 until he retired in 2023. He led the production of the annual PE Ethics Live program to educate engineers across the region, and is the State Director for the South Plains Chapter and on the NSPE Board of Ethical Review.
Nancy Lopez Awarded for her extensive accomplishments in the organization, serving as Treasurer, Student Chapter Professional Liasion, Event Committee chair, and Education Committee chair in the El Paso Chapter, and on the Education Committee and Young Engineers Committee at the state level. Lopez also helped to re-establish the UTEP student chapter.
Dallas Chapter Awarded for the creation of their promotional member outreach video where Dallas Chapter members shared what they love about TSPE and the “So You Want to Be a Professional Engineer” seminar program which taught prospective professional engineers how to navigate the licensure process through a four-part program.
2022
Ronke Osibajo, P.E. Awarded for her work on the Greater Houston Chapter Communications Team. She revamped the appearance of all communications and improved upon the chapter's email platform. She created a membership campaign to engage new members monthly with curated messages from board members.
Janice Noeldner, P.E. Awarded for her work on the Greater Houston Chapter Communications Team. She coordinated with the board and committees to develop newsletter content and social media posts for the chapter utilizing Ronke's templates. She instated a posting schedule to connect with members on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, their website, and email.
2021
Greater Houston Chapter Awarded for their continual engagement of the chapter during the COVID-19 pandemic, hosting routine virtual meetings, virtual trivia events, an Education Night honoring youth program participants, and holding an in-person cornhole tournament outside once it was permittable.
Dallas Chapter and Preston Trail Chapter Awarded for their continual engagement of the chapter during the COVID-19 pandemic, hosting monthly meetings and working together to get recorded videos of their award winners to promote to others. The Dallas Chapter hosted virtual Past President meetings, monthly trash clean-up events, and a Top Golf Tournament. The Preston Trail Chapter also hosted a park clean-up event, heavily promoted Engineers Week and PE Day, and hosted the TSPE Conference for a second year in a row.
2020
Denton Chapter Awarded for the many years of work to re-activate this chapter in 2018-2019. The dedicated officers have held monthly meetings prior to COVID, been engaged in the local area in drawing attendance, and allowed members in this area to not have to travel so far to attend a local meeting.
Preston Trail Chapter Awarded for initiating membership drive events in the Spring and Fall. They hosted them at firms of board members in areas with other nearby engineering offices. During these events, employees of the host firm and those who work nearby are able to attend and learn about TSPE and the importance of membership.
2019
Rebekah Campbell, P.E. Awarded for her work as the Greater Houston Chapter MATHCOUNTS Coordinator. Rebekah streamlined the competition and volunteer process for this event and created clear sub-chair roles and duties for other volunteers to take charge of for competition day to help things run smoothly.
2018
Dr. Carlos Chang, Ph.D. Awarded for his position and work as the University of Texas at El Paso Student Chapter Faculty Advisor, the work he has done to revitalize that chapter, and his continued support on the Education Committee.
Cory Dulin, P.E. Awarded for his work as the president of the South Plains Chapter. He worked with his board to update all communication methods to members, and the membership initiatives and outreach that he accomplished in his area.
Dallas Chapter Awarded for their establishment of a scholarship program for Southern Methodist University engineering students.
2017
Steve Eubanks, P.E. Awarded for his work on the Fort Worth Chapter’s Young Engineers Leadership Forum. In its second year, each session provided presentations and table topics for young engineers. Open to both members and non-members, this program was a great success and Steve worked to implement the program in other areas of the state.
Jacob Reinig, P.E. Awarded for his many accomplishments as chapter vice-president. He worked to get a city public official to present a program titled “A Tour Through the Mid-Cities” that was popular and beneficial to members and the speakers. Participation of membersat meetings increased by over 60% and brought in new people and companies.
Sabine Chapter Awarded for getting involved in the community, including participating in the Junior Achievement high school outreach program and the Hardin-Jefferson High School Rocket Engineering Program. The chapter also developed the Engineering Education Excellence Award and Distinguished Project award for E-Week.
Preston Trail Chapter Awarded for promoting TSPE in all communications and at meetings, by implementing segments in their luncheons to highlight NSPE/TSPE efforts, featuring a NSPE/TSPE trivia game at a happy hour event, and continuing to promote TSPE by partnering with the Dallas Chapter for E-Week events.
2016
University of Texas at El Paso Student Chapter Awarded for the chapter's growth and regular activity after being revitalized under faculty advisor Dr. Carlos Chang in 2014. Since then, the chapter has had monthly meetings, averaging sixty attendees per meeting as well as offers opportunities for engineering students to volunteer and network.
Robert Hart, Ph.D., P.E. Awarded for his work on the TSPE Education Committee. Dr. Hart was instrumental in developing the concept, scope, and production of TSPE’s video on licensure.
Mark Hoffman, P.E. and Megan Siercks, P.E. Awarded for their development of the Young Engineers Mentor Program in the Greater Houston Chapter. The program offers young members access to an experienced engineer acting as a mentor to be able to discuss professional and personal development issues.
2015
Jonathan Russell, P.E. Awarded for his work as the Fort Worth Chapter Programs Director. He embraced a chapter initiative to develop more applicable programs to attract members and guests, and focused programs on topics such as leadership, legislative and education. Meeting attendance has increased 30% with his programs and guest attendance increased over 20%.
Trish Hatley, P.E., F.NSPE Awarded for her expansion of the TSPE Affiliate Program. Hatley worked diligently in strengthening the TxDOT Affiliate relationship and was instrumental in establishing the City of Dallas as an affiliate. She met with TxDOT staff and chapter liaisons in several districts throughout Texas to explain the program's value and the benefits of being involved.
Nueces Chapter Awarded for their Student Engineer of the Year Award. The recipient is recognized at their E-Week banquet yearly and provides awareness of TSPE at universities. The chapter requests nominations from colleges and selection is based on GPA, participation in the FE Exam, work history, student organizations, and community activities.
2014
Clay Barnett, P.E. Awarded for the revitalization of the Northeast TX Chapter and his work with the TSPE PR Committee. Clay was instrumental in developing a QBS outreach campaign for municipalities through advertising in TML'S publications as well as in starting a LinkedIn group for TSPE.
Greater Houston Chapter Awarded for the development of their Affiliate Program, communicating with their affiliates and engaging them with the chapter. They hosted multiple ice cream social events at TxDOT offices and offered free lunches to those that attend chapter meetings to encourage their attendance.
Preston Trail Chapter Awarded for their Career Days Program. The chapter made a continued effort to reach out to area schools to promote engineering and encourage students to become professional engineers. They dedicated a page on their website with resources for members who are scheduled to present, and a list of future school visitation opportunities.
