Priya Mistry, P.E.

TSPE Preston Trail Chapter
Municipal Project Manager, Cobb, Fendley & Associates, Inc.

Why are you involved in TSPE?

In 2017, I became an active member with the Preston Trail Chapter, because the chapter’s president took the time to make me feel welcomed. Over the years, I have held numerous positions and currently serve as the chapter’s Finance Chair. I am fortunate to have experienced NSPE’s Emerging Leader Program and seize the opportunity to expand my leadership skills with PE Leadership Institute (PELI), Class 11.

The leadership opportunities I have gained and relationships I have built over the years have been instrumental in my professional growth and development. I am grateful to serve and be part of this community that supports engineers and advocates for engineering licensure.

How do you define career success?

In years past, I would have said career success meant winning a project, gaining a new client, taking on more responsibility, receiving a promotion, getting more involved in the industry and community, and so on. While these are all great aspirations and opportunities to look forward to, I no longer view success this way.

My time in leadership programs, such as Emerging Leaders (for both NSPE and CobbFendley) and PELI, has helped me see career success a little differently. Now, I define success by striving to be an exemplary leader. I examine my leadership capabilities daily with these guiding questions:

  • Have I delegated work effectively?
  • Am I providing the team with sufficient resources?
  • Have I made myself available for questions?
  • How can I continue to add value to the team?

Bio

I was born in Illinois, but after a few years and moves, the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex became my home. My husband and I feel blessed to call DFW home where we continue to create and share memories.

Professionally, I serve as a Municipal Project Manager and an Associate at CobbFendley. My engineering project experience ranges from new design and rehabilitation of water and wastewater infrastructure to paving and drainage. When I am not working, you can find me volunteering, cooking, reading, sharing my passion for health and wellness, and enjoying the outdoors.
