Legislative Update

The Second Called Session of the 89th Legislature ended Wednesday, September 3rd, eleven days short of the thirty days allowed for special sessions. 

Governor Abbott's first called special session started on July 21st. On August 15th, the legislature adjourned sine die, following a two-week quorum break by Democrats opposing mid-decade redistricting efforts. Shortly thereafter, the governor issued a proclamation calling for a second special session set to begin immediately. The agenda largely mirrored the first call, with the addition of Camp Safety as his first item.
